Here I am!
April 28th 2009
Well, after saying I didn’t know if I’d be able to maintain a certain number of posts, I went ahead and fell down on the job of doing just that.
But it’s been a busy month. After that crazy week I wrote about last time (I didn’t even mention the dinner party cake I ended up adding on Sunday that week), things slowed down a bit.
I did a wedding cake at BeckenRidge for Lori Wiles on April 11. I’m including photos here.
But my biggest hurdle this month was The Chair Affair, a charity event on the 23rd in Portland. It raises money for the Community Warehouse. I was asked to provide 400 desserts, and just in case I made 425. They were 425 of the most beautiful petit fours, chocolate-dipped strawberries and cream-filled cupcakes I’ve ever made. Probably THE most beautiful.
And the crowd inhaled them in 20 minutes. People were taking four or five each! Of course, I knew they’d be eaten, but I wanted people to stop and LOOK at them first, maybe appreciate the artistic talent? Seems not.
But I heard great feedback later that the desserts “made the event.” I think I will get some more orders out of it, as a good-looking man insisted he was going to call and order petit fours.
This week I don’t have any orders, which is a good thing, because I am obsessed with thinking about opening a shop in downtown Salem. I have the perfect location, flexible lease rates and a killer business plan (no competitors!) Now, if I only had a guaranteed level of income so I knew I could support my family!
